while complaints poured in from habra, gaighata, ashoknagar and bongaon, it is rajarhat that has suffered the worst. people of part nos. 47, 60, 61 and 66 have faced problems in getting their names included in the newly-revised list. documents in possession of tnn also point to these irregularities. for example in part no. 47, electoral list receipt number 0492274 (370371 of 1993 electoral list), jyotsna biswas complained that the signature in the receipt is not hers. interestingly, the receipt does not show the identity of the enumerating official, which is compulsory. in part no. 60 , receipt number 1291397, the name of krishna sarkar had been deleted. locals said there was no person of such name in the family. but mysteriously the name appeared in 2001 electoral list (serial number 434). bina bhattacharjee of part no. 47 (receipt number 0492216), gouranga sarkar (receipt number 0492260) and bimalendu chakraborty of part no. 61 (receipt number 1158634) complained that the signatures in the receipt were not theirs. chakraborty even complained that the enumerator had not met him. not only this, nemai sarkar and jagadish sarkar of gouranganagar said that enumerator jayanta chatterjee refused to take their names on saturday citing 'expiry' of revision period. however, subdivisional officer (barasat) baidyanath mondol claimed there was nothing wrong with the enumeration. he also said that merely having names in 1991 and 1993 electoral lists did not mean the same people would be included in the present revised list. district magistrate harikrishna dwibedi said, everything is going on following election commission directives. the district magistrate and the sub-divisional officer, however, have a sharp difference of opinion over the application to the magistrate as a last-ditch effort to include names in the list. while the officials fight, the common people continue to suffer. many people in bongaon complained that they had been simply branded 'bangladeshis' and this was making life tough for them.
